Kellogg's Eggo commercial After Effects, Maya, mental ray, Photoshop, XSI, September 2006
A commercial for Kellogg's Eggo from a few years back. I served as Animation Director and Supervisor on the project. The plates were shot in Toronto with live action director James Wahlberg. James and I worked on the storyboards and an animatic/previz in Toronto while on the shoot. The team back in London started designing the characters in 3D based on some reference material that was collected in Toronto and Chicago, where the agency is located. We used Maya for modeling, and did the rest of the 3D in Softimage XSI. The first project that I extensively used XSI on actually. The main reason was since we had a rigger and animators used to Softimage3D that were eager to transition. But we also had tools for Image Based Lighting in Mental Ray as well as wanted to rely on a raytracer for the transparant character. We pre-comped the characters using Adobe After Effects and final composited the spot in Discreet Inferno.
